Efficiency is everything. A pediatric firm wanted to leave their antiquated paper charting method behind and become one of the many medical practices to digitize their workflow. By eliminating the mountains of paperwork and redunant forms that had to be filled out, the doctors found themselves with more time with their patients instead of with their paperwork.

This Santa Monica-based office came to Neutrino Consulting looking for help to change over from their old paper-charting system to one that is fully digital. After an initial survey of the workflow, we noticed that doctors were spending a lot of time waiting for patient records to be retrieved from the charting room, which in turn kept their patients waiting on them. It was also apparent that there was a better way to address the frustrating requirement to come into the office to access patient records when doctors were on-call during nights and weekends.

Working with the needs of the staff, Neutrino Consulting came up with a plan that would give them what they needed in the budget they had set aside. During the transition downtime was kept to a minimum and patients were still being seen without any interruption to the quality of service.

Within four months of implementing the new EMR (Electronic Medical Records) system, the staff had completely switched to using digital tablets and had become paper-free.

Neutrino Consulting used wireless networking to connect multiple rooms and suites so doctors and nurses could roam freely through the offices and not lose their secure connection to their records server. By implementing centrally managed account policies, management was able to grant granular control of access to patient information to ensure the highest level of confidentiality.

As soon as the transition was complete, the medical group determined they could free up an entire room where the paper charts were being stored. They also found they became significantly more efficient when they weren't running around looking for or pulling charts all day.

No more late night trips to the office to pull patient files or spend time waiting for staff to pull a chart and fax over the information. Doctors were now able to make informed decisions when answering emergency patient calls late at night or from out of town just by accessing their charts securely from their tablets.
